Jon Allegretto “Dancing With Forces” EP :: June 11 Release

As some of you may or may not know, I like and create a lot of different kinds of music. People ask me what my favorite is, or favorite band, etc. and I usually say “it depends on the day.” Some times the hour… the weather, my overall mood, you know, all that. I expect some of you are the same way. I like Billy Joel and Beethoven as much as Pantera and Pearl Jam, dig?

For well over 10 years now, I’ve been writing some songs that, for the most part, wouldn’t really fit in any band I played in… and kind of thought they didn’t really belong there any way. Instead of letting them all sit around any longer than they have, I decided to get them out there. I love A Friend Called Fire and what we do but sometimes it’s nice to be able to do something different too. There’s no need to hold out!

I recorded a solo EP back in 2005 with my very good friend Keith “Hex” Nottingham on drums and percussion called Lights in the Dark. It included a version of “Morning Circus” as well as the song “Ghosts,” which can be heard from time to time in an AFCF set. It was a great time and fun to do so I decided to do another EP… and will keep doing them and performing them live from here on out in addition to AFCF.

On Saturday, June 11, 2011, I will be releasing my new EP Dancing With Forces along with performing a live set of some of my old and new tunesRecorded over the last few months by Tom Whittaker at Blackcity Studios in Chicago and mastered by Scott Fritz at Stranded On A Planet, the EP features the amazingly talented Kevin Nelson joining me on drums and percussion. I handled all other musical duties.

This short collection consists of 3 songs… all written in different years and points in my life (2006, 2007, 2010). They are acoustically based with hints of rockablilly, country, acid rock and what I might call heavy folk rock. It’s tough to say exactly, and don’t think I really want to much either. Let’s just say it’s different. I love writing and performing these songs and I hope you will enjoy them too.

It’s just two weeks out, I hope you will pick up a copy and make it to the release show if you can. I will be joined on-stage by my good friends - musical prodigies Kevin Nelson, Jay Ro, and Anthony Priore. The info is on the show poster!
